Entomology and applied zoology

Alberto holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Valencia, where he specialised in entomology and applied zoology. His research covered the biology and ecology of mosquitoes in protected natural parks in the Valencian Community.

Modified atmosphere treatments: CO₂ and nitrogen

He is driving a new line of chemical-free treatments that eliminate pests in an oxygen-depleted environment. The treatments leave no chemical residue and don’t damage delicate foods or pharmaceutical products. The team uses mobile on-site systems, and the long-term goal is fixed installations built into the client’s own production lines.

Pest control for the food and pharmaceutical industries

As Product Manager for Food & Pharma, he develops preventive solutions for sensitive environments. These solutions protect product integrity without disrupting production lines.

Heat treatment protocols

He works with other departments and fellow Product Managers in Spain to standardise heat treatment protocols for several types of pest. These include bed bugs (Cimex sp.), wood pests such as termites and Anobiidae, and stored product insects such as moths, weevils and beetles.

SMART digital pest control and technical training

He manages Anticimex SMART, the digital and preventive pest protection service. He is also part of the plan to scale the food safety KPI programme and technical training from 4 business units to 42 branches across Spain.

Alberto Bernués holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Valencia, where he specialised in entomology. He joined Anticimex in Valencia as a route technician and went on to work as Service Manager and Key Account Manager. Since 2024, he has been the Product Manager for the Food & Pharma industry, where he is responsible for the SMART digital pest control service. He develops chemical-free solutions such as modified atmosphere and heat treatments. He has more than 16 years of experience in the pest control industry.

The science of protection: a biologist's role in advancing Anticimex’ Food and Pharma solutions

What happens when you take a biologist who started out studying mosquito ecology and put him through every single rung of the pest control ladder? Alberto’s journey, from early field tech to Product Manager at Anticimex, shows how scientific curiosity and grassroots experience are shaping safer, more effective pest prevention solutions for Food and Pharma.

From academic research to industry realities

Long before he was managing key accounts, Alberto was just a kid utterly fascinated by nature and animals. That early curiosity led him straight to a biology degree at the University of Valencia, Spain, where he specialized in entomology and applied zoology, sidestepping traditional routes like medicine or dentistry because he genuinely wanted to understand how ecosystems worked.

academic research in nature

A pivotal pest control elective and a fateful connection with a professor pulled him into a research lab studying the biology and ecology of mosquitoes in protected natural parks within the Valencian Community (Spain). But when economic realities hit right as he finished his PhD, the academic path suddenly narrowed. Instead of staying in the lab, Alberto leaped into the private sector—and it changed everything.

"Looking back, stepping out of academia wasn't a setback; it was the catalyst for everything that came next," Alberto reflects.

Rather than walking into a desk job, Alberto's first introduction to commercial pest control was getting his boots dirty as a route technician with Anticimex in Valencia.

He didn't just learn the theory; he lived the day-to-day reality of the trade. Over time, he climbed through the ranks, working as a Service Manager and handling Key Account Management before stepping into product management in 2024.

Today, managing SMART Service -Anticimex' digital and preventive pest protection solutions- Alberto credits that grassroots path for his effectiveness.

Having experienced every step of the operational structure firsthand, he ensures that technicians understand the benefits of applying the Anticimex Methodology. His extensive experience is a huge asset when it comes to creating practical protocols for technicians in the field and effective solutions for clients.
